Our Commitment to Safety
VCH is proud to set a standard of safety that serve as a benchmark to the crane truck industry. This is because we understand that safety isn’t just about servicing equipment. Safety extends to our people, processes, equipment and our facilities.
We don’t just talk the talk, we walk the walk!
We believe the protection of the health and safety of all our customers, our employees and the general public is vital to the success of all organisations. Poor performance and occupational health and safety (OHS) can take a heavy financial toll on any business, not to mention the human cost of work related illness, injury and fatality.
We use the AS/NZS 4801 Occupational Health and Safety Management System as our benchmark, implementing effective OHS policies and objectives, the establishment, assessment and review of our own OHS procedures and can demonstrate our commitment towards OHS to others via certification.
The ultimate objective within our business is to create and sustain an injury free, healthy work environment for our people and surrounding communities. We are committed to our goal of reducing harm whilst complying with applicable laws and regulations governing workplace safety. Our safety and risk management systems exist to provide all divisions and operations of DBCT P/L a common approach to achieve our objective for everyone who enters our workplace. From detailed engineering design criteria to routine operations, all activities strive to reduce risk.
Safety Features in VCH Fleets
All of VCH’s equipment has been inspected and accredited by independent third parties as compliant with best-practice standards.
VCH vehicles and trailers have been upgraded, modified and inspected in accordance with the following:
Customised larger mirrors to minimise blind spots
Forward protection collision devices and lane departure warning systems
Underrun protection to prevent light vehicles from getting stuck under the trailer while in operation.
Audible left-turning signals
VAS plating, ensuring our modified, imported and individually constructed vehicles meet safety and structural standards
Platform ladders
Spill kits and fire extinguishers
Non-slip yellow handles
These fit-outs exceed the requirements far exceed the requirements of the Federal Governments’ “Vulnerable Road User Program” of which VCH is fully compliant with and a member of.
Operating the largest Vehicle loading crane company in Victoria, VCH Cranes have all been awarded green stickers through the Crane Industry Council & Crane Safe Australia. While Green Stickering our equipment is voluntary, it certifies that VCH’s machinery far exceeds the minimum quality and safety standard and demonstrates our commitment to providing the best service to our valued customers. The program aims to augment existing safety standards and will be administered within the industry through annual assessments of cranes by CraneSafe (a division of The Crane Industry Council of Australia). Maintaining this prestigious feat involves rigorous annual NDTS tests to guarantee the structural integrity of cranes.
Since achieving this milestone, we have also been inducted as full members of the Australian Crane Council.
All VCH cranes have EMS systems inside so they are working at 70%- 80% capacity once the crane reaches maximum capacity it will not lift the load unless the system is manually overridden. The system is only manually overridden if there are sensor faults in the crane or a lift study has been performed for that specific lift.
Process
Where a single project may take up to four distinct contractors to deliver, VCH is able to provide an end to end solution and is therefore able to assume responsibility for the risk associated with the job in its entirety.
This reduces exposure by eliminating:
Inherent risk when managing multiple providers, and
Any “grey area” of responsibility each time these providers interact with one another; often providers deflect and pass on responsibility for risk rather than assume it
Additionally, VCH is able to identify, assume, reduce, control and monitor risk associated with each project, from end to end through processes established:
in our endeavour towards obtaining OHS 14001 certifications
its proud partnership with the federal governments “Vulnerable Road User Program”
continuously educating, up-skilling and training employees
In fact, as a testament to our commitment, all drivers are required to identify themselves using their personal tags, undertake a breathalyzer test before they are able to access the key safe and score a negative result for any banned substances. Management is automatically notified of any failed tests though our people are without a doubt the best in the industry, with flawless results to date.
Our Facility
We don’t just trust anyone to maintain our equipment, as such we have established a service center, in house, with three full-time diesel mechanics and a workshop manager. This ensures our standard of excellence is within our control always!
Our facilities boast the highest safety standards, having invested significantly to protect the general public, our employees and our valued clients.
Our commitment boils down to the most granular level including safe walkways throughout are depot ensuring that operators, visitor or staff are secluded from areas where heavy machinery operate. It is even reflected in our parking bays that house our cranes, trucks and trailers that are built with impact rated guard rails.
VCH’s efforts are of benefits to our valued customers as they assure that:
Risk inherited by our valued customers minimised and controlled,
Transported goods are in safe hands,
Risk and exposure are identified, controlled and managed by VCH
This standard is one of VCH’s proudest accomplishments and is for benefit and safety of staff, customers and the general public.
These measures not only ensure that VCH is a market leader, in sheer size and capability,
